The Broken Claw

Week 3

Astrid woke to a slightly sagging bed canopy and a tapping at the door, Callie stating she had a message for her. Checking her bed, she found Lily curled up asleep on the top of it. First Astrid listened to Callie then waking Lily by shaking the canopy. Lily suddenly alert landed almost silently upon the floor and quickly went for daggers that weren’t there. Snapping to her sense she settled, and asked for the day’s plans, deciding not to leave her at home Astrid decided to take her along, stopping via a nearby store to get her a change of clothes.

Urit also sent messages to the other group members saying she’d received word from Adine and to meet her at the guild house when they could. Most quickly making their way there. Rana quickly asking why Lily had been brought and Urit seconding the questioning. The group quickly set to bickering amongst themselves about her involvement. During this time Lily took the opportunity to have a small chat to Essie.

Revealing herself as a bastard child of Lady Reyna Diesel and an unknown father, Lily asked Essie to pass a message onto Vincenzo, letting him know he had a half-sister who would like to return to the family. Essie said she’d reach out when she could. Wishing to follow up on that she took Lily and headed for the Whoreporium whilst the others went to meeting with Adine.

At the docks Adine let the group know that the shipment would be moved the following evening and to be ready to move out. Confirming the 1500 payment on completion. The group then decided to deal with their own business for the rest of the day.

At the Whoreporium Essie sent word for Vincenzo chatting to Lily in the meantime. Occasionally being shouted at by Natasha from the upstairs as her, Vix and Meryl were trying to sleep. Halmund dropped by to check on the situation with Lily offering to take her by the workshop as Essie mentioned Lord Diesel. Lily said she would catch up with him when Vincenzo arrived.

Astrid decided to drop into court, noting Lord Randolph and Lady Chandler holding a small court in the corner, both looking rather angry (considering it was meant to be the wedding today this didn’t seem too odd). Astrid avoided them for the most part, primarily talking to Lady Lana Tregaria about the rumours circulating about what happened to Leila.

Rana dropped in on the Urchins in the Harbour, talking briefly to Lupe, the older of the troupe, who essentially told her what they were up to was none of her business as Rana had moved on. However, a younger girl, known as Reva, told Rana that they were setting up for a job, which was why Lupe was on edge.

Marcus decided to trawl the market district of The Plunge, stopping at a few stalls spotting a few oddities. The main find was some Oryn’ja trickets made from Oranjese Steel which could potentially be melted down for other things.

Vincenzo eventually arrived at The Whoreporium immediately asking why there was a young child sat in the lounge. Essie and Lily told him about the situation and Vincenzo quickly left stating he didn’t care about the girl at all. Shortly after Astrid arrived passing Vincenzo as he left. Being quickly filled in on the details. She mentioned to Lily that she was once an orphan too whih led to Lily eventually asking ‘what are your parents’ and when Astrid diverted the questions Lily stated ‘Mine are cats!’ and stormed out.

Halmund, Rana & Marcus grouped up in the Guild House, Rana & Marcus hovering whilst Halmund worked in his workshop, as they were talking a man wandered in asking after them. Introducing himself as Arlen, and offering a counter to the delivery. Saying he’d pay them more than The Drum Tide Argosy and give a cut of the goods if they could just be diverted. The group told him to leave and he bid them a good day and left. The trio didn’t pass this information onto Essie & Astrid deciding amongst themselves not to turn on the DTA.

The group regrouped at the docks the following evening, Astrid asking Callie to look into where Lily had gone whilst she was gone.

At the docks Adine was waiting with a group of her guards and two wagons. Explaining to the group that her and most of her guards are going with a decoy carriage through the lower districts whilst the group are to take the main carriage through the caves and into the noble districts. They headed out after a short conversation. Rana took point over the rooftops and stopped to scope out the caves from the group. They noticed movement in the caverns so Rana, Astrid, Moira and Marcus went to clear the way before moving on

Week 2

(Not in attendance, Essie & Halmund)

Starting from the end of last session: ‘Where is she?’ Lord Randolph questioned Astrid further. Astrid stated she didn’t know where she was at this moment, managing to deflect the questioning by insinuating she was investigating Leila, with her charisma and the rumours of her familiy’s involvement in the V&W Lord Randolph decided this was not the time for that conversation. He allowed her to continue on as he had more important things to be doing at that time.

Meanwhile Rana had stopped a young girl who had been following the party at the docks. Through some rather circular conversation she introduced herself as Lily and demanded to speak with Lady Hawthorn for reasons that were none of Rana’s business. Rana deflected the girl who said she’d just go wait at the Whoreporium for Essie to return. Whilst Lily was pretending to walk off Rana slipped away unnoticed.

Marcus meanwhile had gone ahead with Leila towards Santos’ home, Leila shifting from trying to hide to slightly more excited to be away. Reaching Santos’ the group knocked and the door when unanswered. Rana caught up with the small group and (after checking it was actually locked in the first place) picked the lock on the door. The room beyond had been trashed, broken furniture cluttering the floor. Although no distinct signs of a struggle.

Meanwhile Astrid decided to drop into the Guild House to see if any news had reached, finding Urit sat in the bar. Urit asked why Astrid was not with her companions on their mission and if anything were to go wrong Astrid would likely be in trouble due to not being there to help. With Moira helping confirm they were not being followed they headed for the docks to find the others

‘I know what happened!’ The slightly familiar voice popped up as the Rana and Marcus were trying to work out what had occurred. Once again talking in confusing circles and talking herself out of needing anything in return, she informed them that she has seen Santos waiting outside, a large man in a bird shirt arrive, they moved inside and then she heard a lot of banging and smashing, then the two left. She also mentioned seeing someone go in through the window after and leave shortly after carrying a bag ‘the right size to fit a head in’.

Deciding not to drag Leila through the search for Santos they ask where she would be safe, stating that Todd would look after her. Rana, Marcus & Leilawith Lily following after headed for the Harbourmasters house. Conveniently bumping into Astrid and Moira on route.

At the Harbourmasters house, ToddGoodwin agreed to look after Leila however quite clearly expressed his dislike in her plan. Moira stayed behind with them to act as a guard whilst the group went to find Buckminster Silk, the only person known for wearing bird attire. Heading for The Shadows and Sparrows to find him.

Upon arrival Astrid got the group through the doors by revealing herself to the guard’s, stating the others were servants who were necessary for her business. Once inside the group spoken with one of the bartenders asking to speak with Buckminster, hurrying them when they said they’d have to wait.

Speaking with Buck they found that Santos had been sent to call in a debt from Bobbi, a friend of his at the Library, as part of a debt he himself owed. In order to get this information Astrid agreed to a favour to be paid at a later date. During this conversation the group spotted Lily stealing a small purse from the side.

On arrival at the Library, Santos and a woman quickly identified as Bobbi are standing in the grounds weapons draw, shouting about the debt owed. The party quickly interjected themselves into the conversation which quickly turned to a fight. Astrid left to find the guard hoping to resolve the situation without bloodshed however by the time she returned Marcus and Rana had already ended the fight. With Bobbi dead in the street the guard asked Astrid and the group’s involvement which Astrid deflected as Noble business . The guard stated he would need to speak with her later agreeing to attend her home later in the day.

The group quickly rushed Santos to the docks and Leila, although not happy Todd allows them to go and after paying the group the pair left quickly to the waiting ship. During this scene Lily also handed Astrid 10 gold from the purse she stole stating it was a finders fee for getting her into the Shadows in the first place.

At this point the group split to their own evenings, Rana and Marcus spending the evening in the Guild bar to celebrate a job well done whilst Astrid returned home with Lily in tow, explaining to the young girl that she would need to stay out of the way and keep her head down.

Once home Astrid some with her mother, who asked firstly about the guard who had visited the house, Astrid loosely explained the situation which her mother seemed to accept without much further questioning. However, she then asked about the young girl currently raiding her house fridge, asking for her to be brought upstairs. Asking Astrid to wait outside Lady Ana cast glow to check and confirm Lily’s spellbound nature. Through the following conversation Lady Ana made it clear to Astrid Lily was now her responsibility and if anything about a rogue spellbound were to be found linked to House Calcifer then the situation would have to be dealt with…

Week 1 Summary

The session started with the party speaking with Urit at The Broken Claw regarding missions that were currently available:

  • Competition at The Shadows & Sparrows
  • Help transporting a Drum Tide Argosy shipment, that is a likely target of the Deic Fleet
  • Help with a village that is being attacked by Madfire Burners
  • Help Santos Jones

The party decided to speak with Santos to at least hear out what was wished of them but also to speak with Adine regarding the DTA shipment. Urit agreed to set up the meeting with Santos and told the group Adine would no doubt be found at the Docks.
The group found their way to the DTA building where after a slightly short wait and a ‘rude’ secretary found themselves speaking with Adine and agreeing to the job, which would likely be taking place in four nights’ time, although Adine agreed to contact them if this were to change.

After a short wait which saw the party split to their normal lives they regrouped to speak with Santos. Meeting at The Broken Claw guild house. Santos explained the situation, he had fallen for Lady Leila Chandler, whilst the pair had been learning to sail with the Harbourmaster, Todd Goodwin, however despite sharing his feelings Leila had been betrothed to Lord Zachariah Randolph and was intending to see her family’s wishes through.

Santos was convinced if he could speak with her once more he could convince her to leave with him. Managing to get the party to agree to at least reach out to her. Astrid arranged to meet with her.

During the meeting Astrid, Essie & Rana spoke regarding Leila’s options and when asked her own wishes she expressed her want to be with Santos. This led to the group concocting a ‘kidnapping’ to get Leila away and to the docks to Santos the following day.
The following morning the group worked upon the plan, borrowing The Broken Claw Carriage. Knowing she would be identifiable Astrid chose not to attend the ‘kidnapping’ instead attending court where she would be seen.

At court the usual court ladies were chittering away, Astrid joining the conversation steering it towards the upcoming wedding. Through this she found that Zachariah had planned to be in attendance with Leila that day at the preparation events. Astrid quickly left court intending to reach the ‘scene’ to see how it went.

Meanwhile the kidnapping itself worked quite well. Lady Leila released the smoke bomb as instructed and was whisked away by the group. The majority of the group left the carriage early leaving Halmund to take a detour round the University district. He was stopped by a guard however as the carriage was empty they let him pass.

Meanwhile Astrid stopped via the scene of the kidnapping, finding Lord Randolph shouting at various members of the guard, thinking she could send him in the wrong direction she spoke with him regarding a sighting near the wizards tower, however when looking for back up to her story Moira stumbled and Lord Randolph drew his weapon, levelling it at Astrid and asking where Leila had gone…

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
